Conference „Sustainable Development Goals: The Contribution of Science“

The Swiss Academy for Arts and Science in cooperation with the Swiss Commission for UNESCO organize the conference „Sustainable Development Goals: The Contribution of Science“ on the 22nd of January 2018 in Bern.

With the «Agenda 2030» the international community determined 17 goals on global sustainable economic, social and environmental development. Adopted as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September 2015, all states committed themselves to achieve these goals until 2030. To attain the Agenda 2030 goals at national level, the Swiss Government seeks cooperation and coordination with relevant stakeholders. For that purpose it established an advisory group with representatives from the private sector, NGOs, associations and the scientific community. Committed to provide scientific advice for policy making and for the benefit of society and the environment, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences nominated two scientists to this advisory group. To engage the broader scientific community in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences and the Swiss Commission for UNESCO organise this conference to set the framework, illustrate the challenges and showcase possibilities of contributions.
