UNESCO Chair on Physical Activity and Health: 15 Years of Collaboration and Impact

On the occasions of this year’s World Physical Activity Day 2026 on April 6, the team of the UNESCO Chair on Physical Activity and Health in Educational Settings (University of Basel, Switzerland, and the Nelson Mandela University, Gqeberha, South Africa) has produced a short video highlighting its activities over the past 15 years in a clear and engaging way.
The video illustrates the Chair’s integrated approach, combining research, teaching, training and community engagement to promote physical activity and health in educational settings. It reflects a strong commitment to UNESCO’s “Priority Africa” initiative, as well as to the implementation of the flagship programmes “Quality Physical Education” and “Fit for Life”, particularly in resource-constrained school environments.
As a platform for international cooperation and knowledge exchange, the UNESCO Chair brings together academic institutions and local partners to address key health and education challenges and to strengthen sustainable impact on the ground, especially in South Africa.
